Hi, I'm Kim Cooney. I'm Director of First Year Experience, and I'm going to tell you a little bit about my role. I like to describe it as two main components. The first component is overseeing our FYE courses. So these courses are designed to help our first year students transition successfully from high school to college. So in the fall, students enroll in the first FYE course. And it's really focused on academic success related skills, you know, time management, study skills and motivation. We also spent some time understanding the mission of women the Sisters of Mercy, the resources and opportunities that are here, and as well as some time on identity exploration and sense of belonging. In the spring students continue on in their FYE courses, that's rooted in service learning. And so their theme-based related to the Sisters of Mercy and our core values, like why did we participate in the service experience together and spend some time reflecting on how that has helped us develop as a student. So the other piece of my role is really enhancing the first year experience in and out of the classroom. And of course, that is not done as one department that's a collaboration across campus. So really, our main goal of it in the FYE department is to support students where they are and help them to explore where they'd like to go and really find their version of student success.
